Participants in Ranch Hands have the unique opportunity to work alongside the horse department staff, which looks after the 80 burros and 300 horses at Philmont. Common tasks include saddling, hauling hay, and general horse care. In addition, participants embark on an eight-day cavalcade through the natural beauty of the Rockies. The cavalcade centers on horseback riding and includes supplemental programs such as archaeology, rock climbing, homesteading, and a mountain man rendezvous.
